Snoring: Did You Know That Your Snoring Problem Could Be Deadly?

When dealing with a snoring problem, you could be faced with one of two issues: primary snoring or the more sinister Obstructive Sleep Apnea, or OSA. To understand the differences between these two types of snoring, you must understand exactly how the snoring process works.

Additionally, it is important to understand the difference because while primary snoring can simply be an irritant to your partner, Obstructive Sleep Apnea can lead to other significant health problems, and in some cases can even be deadly!

Lose Weight Lose Your Snore

The most common cause of snoring is obesity.

It therefore follows that the simplest and most straight forward cure for snoring is to lose weight.

If only it were that simple!

Snoring is caused by pressure on the airways obstructing the free flow of air. In a sleeping position, when you carry excess weight, the airways become obstructed by the pressure of the additional weight resting on them, especially if you carry additional weight around your neck and throat.

Losing weight and exercising to tone the muscles and tissues is the simplest and most effective way to stop snoring.

We all know that it is unhealthy to be overweight. We know about the risks of heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes and arthritis being caused by obesity and yet, for so many, the will power to take the required action to lose weight is missing.

Snoring is just another complaint to add to the long list of conditions worsened by obesity. The difference is that as well as impacting your own health your snoring can also jeopardise the health of your loved ones and it has the potential to destroy your relationships.

Losing weight does not have to be about hardship and sacrifice. In fact, if you are prepared to exercise and increase your activity levels it may mean that you do not need to restrict your calorie intake - that will really depend on your diet.

It is important to speed up the metabolism in a natural way. This not only helps with weight loss but it also assists with many physiological functions, particularly elimination and excretion. With the increased oxygen and improved circulation every cell of the body can function more efficiently and eliminate waste products more effectively.

With the body ridding itself of toxins rather than storing them in body fat there is less to aggravate and inflame the delicate systems of the body. This means there is less congestion and inflammation in the mucous membranes - and of course less or no snoring.

Aerobic exercise is best for giving the body a metabolic boost - but this does not mean you have to endure long hours in a dance studio. It is possible to incorporate aerobic exercise into your day in many different ways. You just need to be creative. Take the stairs rather than the lift; take a walk at lunchtime rather than surfing the internet, walk the dog or if you don't have a dog of your own, walk your neighbour's dog. Housework is excellent aerobic activity as is gardening and cycling.

If you have a lot of weight to lose, it is advisable to check with your doctor before embarking on any exercise routine. Take things slowly at first and gradually increase your exercise levels - your partner will notice an improvement in your snoring levels which will be an incentive to continue the good work.

Your partner will appreciate the new fitter you and he or she will be much less irritable and tired once they are able to get a good night's sleep without you snoring away next to them.

There are so many other health benefits to losing that excess weight - you have nothing to lose, except your snore!
